Editor's Note:
Hope you're off to a great songwriting month this April. I'd been fortunate
in the past couple of weeks to carve out some additional time to work
on rounding out some projects that have called for some finishing touches
in a professional studio.
Accordingly, I was honored to have the chance to again get some studio
time with one of my favorite writer-producers Marc
Jacobs who's work you may have experienced with three seasons of Fox's
Bones under his belt, Men In Trees and even interlude music on American
Idol among other shows and film projects. I guess since I worked with
him way back when he still kindly takes my calls and considers squeezing
me in now and then.
So I'll have some of these new songs up on my Broadjam.com/RobCurtis
site soon - after mastering them - so probably by mid May. Some or all
of them will end up on my coming album too.
By the way if you're looking for a great site to host your songs online
as an artist I suggest checking out Broadjam.
If you just want to try it out you can host up to three songs indefinitely
for free. And they have ongoing pitch opportunities all the time for artist,
tv and film pitches.
Okay, enough about all that and me, I wanna talk about you
:-) (thanks Toby Keith and the great writing of Bobby Braddock) - so,
now let's get down to the business of this month's newsletter issue -
music writing - as in writing out more complete lead sheets (the melody
along with the chords) to even more elaborate constructions - such as
a multi-part choral arrangement if by chance a choir might be singing
your song - or a more common situation perhaps - writing out parts for
a band - your band even.
As may well be your practice you might write out as much
as a chord based lead sheet and then sing your song to depict the melody.
That's pretty standard practice in pop songwriting right?
All right, so maybe you don't even write out music notes
let alone even a chord symbol above your lyrics but you find yourself
in a situation where you need a program to help you out. Oh ya, and you've
only got a budget of the two extra $20s in your pocket.
Well then, check out today's article to see how our best
selling notation program just could be the ticket for you to get the music
writing done you need - and those two $20s will cover it just fine.
Hope you have a great writing month!
