How's
Your Pitch(ing)?
To clear this up straight away
we're not talking about your singing voice and being on key or anything like that,
we're talking about are you pitching your songs once they're ready for the world
and are you doing it regularly.
As I'd mentioned in the Editor's
Note above hit songwriter and producer Cliff Goldmacher advises pitching your
songs at least once a week every week of the year.
To throw
a match on that gasoline of an idea let's take a peak at an online company that
combines a service for pitching your songs with a songwriting contest. It's musikpitch.com.
Pitch
What You've Got Or Write Something New
At musikpitch.com
you scan the opportunities and submit what you've got in stock if it fits the
bill, finish up something that's just about ready or come up with a brand new
song.
The projects specify what they're looking for and then
upon submission you're into a contest essentially at the end of which one song
will be chosen that the sponsor is totally happy with. More on that in a minute.
The
Nuts And Bolts Of It
Music directors, producers or whoever
is looking for new material simply sets up a "contest" at musikpitch.com
and describes what they're looking for. It could even be a couple looking for
a special song for their wedding.
Then it's all up to you,
the songwriter, to do your best to target what they're looking for.
The
contest sponsor will specify what the winning song will be paid and the licensing
terms will be posted as well so you'll know whether or not it's right for you
on the money and business side of things as well.
Submit and
you're done. Maybe.
Yes, There's More
In
a productive extra mile step the contest sponsors can provide you feedback in
the form of a request to tweak something about your song that will make it just
perfect for what they want.
This provides that the sponsor
will be most apt to get exactly what they want and you knowing that perhaps due
to one small change your song ended up winning the contest.
This
may not happen at all as your song may well win the run without any changes what
so ever.
