These days a lot of ringtone versions of songs are racking up better sales than the songs they came from.
Case in point - T-Pain - is in many ways doing better with sales of ringtones than his actual songs. His ringtone version of his hit single “Buy U A Drank” sold over 2.5 million units, and was the best-selling ringtone of the year according to the Nielsen’s Ringscan service.
And even though ringtones are just a short segment of the entire song they typically cost way more.
But hey - not just the big artists can get in on the action - even independent artists or bands can get in on the action too.
Today we'll take a look at some software and sites making that a reality.
So if your a songwriter peddling yourself as an artist too consider adding ringtones to your package for more exposure and sales.

Ring In The New Year With Your Own Ringtones
Software For Ringtones
There a specific programs that allow you to create ringtones of your songs and then allow you to send them to your own phone or upload them to a site for downloadable purposes.
A couple of popular programs include that you can try for free are WavePad and Create-Ringtones . For an overview and comparison of ten different ringtone maker software programs click here to check out Ringtone Software Review.
All these programs can work well but check them out as some restrictions apply - for example as of this time WavePad can't make MP4 files that would work on Apple devices.
Sites For Making And Selling Ringtones
Once you've got your ringtones created you can upload them to your site or perhaps enlist a specific site service that makes the process of creating, loading and marketing your ringtones a lot easier.
Broadjam.com recommends Myxer for the whole package - create, upload and then give away or sell your ringtones through their system - and you set the price.
Xingtone.com lets you set up your own ringtone store. You could simply put a link on your site that links to your own Xingtone store and have it independent of your site if your prefer
Get Creative
Some other ways to include getting ringtones out to your fans would be for one to put them on your cds - perhaps after you main song set. That way they're ready to load and go.
And countless other possibilities.
Ringtones offer a great way to share the exposure of your music more regularly with your fans and even advertise your songs to potential new fans in earshot of the ringing phone.
