You Can't Be Heard And That's
Good
It may be difficult to completely stop the transmission of sound out
of your home studio but there is a lot you can do to mitigate it and
make it comfortable enough for your household and neighbors alike.
Songwriting And Recording Between The Sheets
One of the most affordable and unique products out there are the Absorption
Sheets from Audi-mute.com.
Their fabric sheets boast of an impressive .70 NRC sound absorption
rating which is a bit better than 2/3rds up the scale to a reading of
1 that would be full sound absorption.
The sheets come in different sizes and are easily hung with their handy
clamp system or you can drape or stack them as you wish.
Use them to flesh out your closet studio or do an entire garage.
Check them out here.
Songwriting And Recording Alone Or With A Panel?
Okay that heading was bit twisted but the point is that
you may prefer something more hefty to stand up and hold up to your
loud drumming - like a fabric covered panel.
There is a company with just such products that have various
height sound absorption panels among other related panel materials to
absorb sound - DrumPerfect.com.
Don't let the name fool you, they're not just about helping
out drummers. They have products to help all home and small studio musicians
and artists.
Their absorption panels can be viewed here
- and they even have a very competitively priced vocal recording booth
shown here.
Remember though, that unlike the light weight of the sheets
noted above, purchasing heavier sound barrier items that are going to
be shipped are going to incur considerably more in shipping costs. A
good thing to keep in mind when shopping for sound control items.
Songwriting And Recording On Air
A really cool product that has yet to come to market is
an inflatable vocal recording booth.
This could be ideal for the home recording songwriter
as it appears to be well constructed for sound control and would be
relatively easy to set up and take down - important if you've got a
small space.
No one from this company has ever responded to my inquiries
so I don't really know what they're up to but their product looks like
something pretty nice and I'd love to try it out.
Check out the InflataBooth here.
Here's to quietly making a lot of noise - see you next issue.
