Thankfully, Tanager Audio Works has developed quite a nice program that takes songwriting into the realm of painting in that it creates a starting canvas so to speak for your songs. It's akin to the idea of painters sketching or drawing their idea first onto a canvas and then painting their picture. The program is called SongFrame and today we'll go through the quite ingenious yet perhaps obviously simple - as in why didn't someone put this into practice before - approach and set of tools that SongFrame brings to bear on the whole process of initially writing and then producing a song. SongFrame not only makes putting your songs together easier it actually will make them better pretty much weather you like it or not due to its pre-formatted tool sets. Don't worry - you can still edit if you want. Anyway, it's all good - as I think you'll see.

Begin Painting Your Songs In SongFrameSongFrame, from Tanager Audio Works, is a computerized toolkit for initial song development. It allows you a way of writing and refining songs that you use to create a draft of your song that you then load into your DAW (digital audio workstation - a program like Logic or Digital Performer for Mac or Cubase or Sonar for a PC) or any application capable of importing audio and MIDI files. From Scratch Idea To Strong Song Structure With SongFrame you're able to develop a solid song structure right from the start including elements such as rhythm, melody, chord progressions and lyrics. What SongFrame does is create the foundation and superstructure of any song preceding the recording and production process. What's First? Lyrics, Music, Groove? - Start Anywhere A great thing about SongFrame is that it is completely versatile in its ability to go from wherever you are inspired to start. Your song may begin from a simple lyric idea, an interesting rhythmic thought, a melody line, an unusual chord progression or even an inspired idea for a title. Start where you want and then build the other elements as you choose. Drag And Drop Entire Chord Progressions - Edit Yourself Or With The Program Chord progressions can be simply dragged and dropped rather than working it out on your piano or guitar. You can still work out changes on your keyboard or guitar but the software allows you to use a 70 audible chord per key chord library that will find chord substitutes for you so that you may instantly change and try different chords for the desired effect. Need more chord help - you can tryout chords based on the feeling you're trying to convey with SongFrame's "happy-sad" and "stable-tense" axis tool. Also, you can filter the chord progressions by root movement, complexity, era or musical genre. Grooves Are Ready To Groove Drum patterns are available from 500 existing drum patterns that also allow adjustments until the perfect drum pattern is created. Edit further later on in your DAW. And SongFrame allows you the ability to have the program do it all for you. Load In Midi Or Audio Files And Start There SongFrame allows you to quickly record any inspirations that you may have for a song or to load in audio or Midi files. And when using a MIDI track on SongFrame you can set different parameters like creating vocal ranges and you can even view the scale tones of 150 musical scales or different modes. Save Your Ideas For Later By storing SongBits in your own dynamic notebook, you may easily drop any previous song writing ideas right into your current song in progress, or you may also share and distribute ideas with any of your collaborators. Ready To Record? - Go From SongFrame To DAW As discussed at the beginning SongFrame is utilized prior to using your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation (DAW).
