On A Mac - Is It Love? Editor's Note: There are pros and cons to Mac versus PC usage but the lines have been getting more blurred recently as the idea of running Windows on a Mac and vice versa has at least partially become reality. With the advent of new software - and more will be coming - you can now readily run your Windows programs (mainly XP ones) on a Mac quite smoothly. In today's home studio feature just such a program will be discussed. Indeed it has been possible already to run XP on a Mac but not like this new program makes it go - it's a big step ahead. On the flip side - at least cumbersomely - you can set up a Mac operating system on Windows with an emulator program but it's a major time consuming task and thus far not a smooth running operation. Being that it is technologically possible - and when Steve Jobs of Apple lets go of a little control - the flood gates will open. Michael Dell has said he's ready to put Mac OS on Dells as an option as soon as Steve Jobs is ready to allow a reasonable licensing model. I'll keep you posted.
Windows On A Mac - Is It Love? Can Windows and Mac Operating Systems Share A Mac? In a word - yes - now running Windows on Macs has never been done as easily and seamlessly as it is now with a new software program from SWsoft. If you're in a situation where you'd like to get a Mac - but don't want to loose the great Windows PC based software you use - or you want to use Windows software on your Mac - now that leap has become just a short step. Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Macs is the first program for Intel based Macs (Intel-Macs) that lets you run Windows (or even Linux) along with the Mac's operating system running at the same time - and all this without any rebooting. Is It More Than Skin Deep? Again - yes - Parallels not only gives you a lot on the surface - including a smooth user experience - but there is a lot under the hood too. For one there is a cross pollination feature of sorts that lets you open Windows files with the Mac programs and Mac files in Windows programs. Plus Parallels now has enhanced 3-D graphic support that helps support music sequencer programs in their graphical displays. Also enhanced audio processing has been built in to the latest upgraded version of Parallels better supporting music production functions. Parallels also allows to reset your system back in time if you encounter a glitch and need to start again at a prior point. Is It Too Good To Be True Or True Love? Parallels is no slouch program - it's won praise from PC World Magazine to the Wall Street Journal and even recently won awards at its debut at the annual MacWorld show. Thus far it's been deployed to over a half million users. It was also selected one of PC World's Top "Best 100 Products of 2007", coming in at #6 to be exact, and since that award it has been further tweaked with over 50 new enhancements. Additionally, it became the first ever non-Apple product to be named "Product of the Year" by MacWorld readers. Adding to that is that it's nicely priced at well under $100 US. I'm hoping that SWsoft's program for running a Mac operating system on a Windows PC will work as well when that day arrives. Click here for more information on Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac.
