I'd heard about Steinberg's Virtual Guitarist program before but until recently hadn't had a chance to experience it first hand. I gotta tell ya this program really rocks!

I was so impressed in my most recent demo session with how good this program sounded that along with my producer we imported a really hot lick to spruce up the chorus of my latest song. It sounded so real and the audio loop of the live player automatically matched the groove, chords and tempo of my song - I literally had to say WOW!

Talk about having the great sound of a guitar (electric or acoustic) when you need it without having to search out a great guitarist is pretty awesome. I'll definitely be getting my own copy soon.

Virtual Guitarist 2 Rocks!

Need a hot guitar part in an instant, even at 2:00AM, while you're laying down tracks in your sequencer, Cubase, Logic, etc., then look no further than Virtual Guitarist 2 (VG2 from here on).

VG2 provides you with a wide assortment of guitar loops recorded from high level studio and world renowned players in a wide variety of electric and acoustic styles with even more to choose from in version 2.

Matches Your Tempo, Chords And Groove

In a simple scenario let's say you want an acoustic guitar part in the verse of your song - while your tracks are playing (provided you've got a groove already programmed and your chords) you can audition an acoustic guitar part that not only matches the tempo of your song but the groove and the chords!

The groove match is based on the new GrooveMatch technology and it is quite incredible to hear a pre-recorded guitar loop (or riff) reconfigure to match your groove.

If it sounds in the pocket of what you're looking for then load it in and walla you've got your acoustic guitar part that sounds like a pro came into your studio and recorded it just for you and your song.

Edit Away

It may sound great as is but you can always modify the part with the various effects that are standard fare for guitar right in the program.

New in version 2 you get the ability to edit the actual loop to delete a note for example or move it or mute it in certain sections and more - like transposing the loop.

Multiple Styles Available

All in all VG2 features 81 styles that pretty much cover the breath of all current musical styles. 32 of the styles are new in version 2.

And you can even expand on that - as I noted regarding editing above - the new riff page allows you to freely edit the riffs of VG2's players.

Specs and Techs

Take note the program is huge in size at almost 7 GBs so if you're so inclined to buy it make sure you've got a lot of room on your hard drive or consider getting a new hard drive to accommodate it.

Going more technical - the program is compatible to any VST, DXi, AU or ReWire host application under OSX and PC.

And you get EQ Stompbox effects such as Wah, Compressor, Fuzz, Tremolo, Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Reverb and Delay MIDI Learn now supported for most editing knobs.

If you're not so technified don't worry - the program is pretty easy to use and sounds great without any effects to begin with so you can take it slow and maybe even baby step your way on experimenting with any effects. If you don't like what you came up with just Edit Undo it.
