Amped Up - But Which Way To Go? Editor's Note: When it comes to laying down tracks for your songs with virtual guitar programs there are typically two directions to head in. If you're a guitarist or it's at least your main instrument then you may want to use a more involved guitar program with a lot to offer sound and production wise. If guitar is not your instrument but you'd like a guitar to be part of your song, at least rhythmically, then a program more suited to that specifically will likely be the easiest way to go. Today we'll discuss the two leading programs that cover each of these angles and of course you can always use both for even more creative input to your song production construction too.
All Amped Up - But Which Way To Go? If Guitar Is Your Instrument If you're primarily a guitarist - and are after the ability to produce a multitude of amp and mic effects among others in your song production tracks - then you may find a program like the very highly regarded Amplitube to be to your liking. IK Multimedia's Amplitube allows the reasonably versed guitarist to program various guitar sounds and arrangements from classic Hendrix to grunge. It even comes in a Hendrix version if you want to delve deeply into his sound. Amplitube is also helpful in the process of creating originality in your song production. Amplitube not only provides various types of guitar sounds and effects but it lets you combine them for totally unique creations. Typically Amplitube can run $300 to $400 US but you can find a lite version of it in Cakewalk's Guitar Tracks Pro 3. Cakewalk's program gets okay reviews by users but will give you a good basic version of Amplitube for substantially less cost. Not A Guitarist - But You Want A Nice Rhythm Guitar Sound If you're laying down tracks for a new song you're working up and have a groove tracked and would like a nice rhythm guitar to play along to that per your chords then you'll be well served by Virtual Guitarist 2 (VG2 from here on). VG2 provides you with a wide assortment of guitar loops recorded from high level studio and world renowned players in a wide variety of electric and acoustic styles with even more to choose from in version 2. In other words you can audition an acoustic or electric guitar part that will match the tempo of your song and the groove and chords. Then just load the guitar part that you like - or even layer acoustic and or electric guitars one track after another. And you can modify the parts with the various effects that include the ability to delete a note or move it or mute it in whatever sections you choose and more - even transpose the loops to a different key. All the programs mentioned are widely available online and at local to major music stores.
