Hello First
up: Editor's Note from the
laptop of Robert
Curtis, Followed by Items: 1. Macs
And PCs Now Co-writing Editor's Note: This issue is short and sweet to help beat the summer heat :-) (at least here in North America) Is this global warming? Anyway, now Macs and PCs can collaborate as Windows XP can now run on the new Macs. Check out more about this below and also take note that if you're going to co-write beyond the virtual, with another human being that is, then you might take the oft heard advice to get it in writing. Read on for more details...:-)
Macs and PCs Now Co-writing If you were not aware Windows now works on the new Intel-based Macs brought about by a great customer demand for this function. Within the last few months Apple has been rolling out Boot Camp, public beta software that enables Intel-based Macs to run Windows XP. If you're a PC user and have come to admire and maybe even been contemplating purchasing a Mac then this should make it much easier to switch to a Mac and still keep your Windows programs that you can simply now transfer to the Mac. With Boot Camp you simply install Windows XP and your existing Windows applications on any Intel-based Mac (note these are the newer Macs that have the new Intel chips; make sure that is what you're dealing with). If you want to take Boot Camp for a spin, you can download it at http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/. Please note: Boot Camp is public software that is now in beta and only works with Intel-based machines. When Co-writing Person To Person If you decide to collaborate (co-write) it's an excellent idea, right from the beginning, to get it in writing - in other words, how the song will be divided up. It helps establish and preserve a good relationship among co-writers and it is good practice to have these items in order when you go to negotiate a song publishing deal. I've provided a link to a pdf copy (below) of the agreement I've constructed from various discussions and agreements I've encountered and it's what I use myself modifying it slightly from one situation to the next but overall it remains the same. You can preview and download it and use it and modify it as you wish. Please note this agreement below is for general reference only, it is not formal legal advice. Please don't hesitate to consult an attorney if you prefer but make sure they specialize in music law. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ COLLABORATORS' AGREEMENT
(in pdf and txt formats) Please note for the pdf you will need Adobe Reader (the latest version is recommended) installed on your computer in order to open and read the Collaborators' Agreement. You can get Adobe Reader here (a new window will open so you can download without leaving this page). If you want to simply open the file in your browser window for viewing you can just click on the link. However if you want to download the file to view and use then right click on the link and choose "Save Target As" or "Save File As." Then select where you want to save the file on your hard drive. Once you have saved the file, locate where you saved it, and double click to open. In order to print the pdf, open the downloaded file, and select the "Print" option from the Adobe menu. Click here for the Collaborators' Agreement pdf file (right click to download). +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
