THE MINOR SCALE

Actually, there are several minor scales. We will concentrate on the one directly related (called a “Relative”) to the Major Scale.

Every major scale has a RELATIVE MINOR scale. It is made up of all the same notes, and starts on the 6th degree of the Major scale.

For instance the relative minor to C major is A minor; the relative minor key to G major is E minor; etc.

Following are two of the easier minor scale fingerings:

 

The minor scale on guitar.

 

EXAMPLE: Starting on the 2nd fret, above left is F# minor scale (= A major) ; above right is B minor scale (= D major).
