Fingerpicking

All guitar players should know some basic fingerpicking techniques.

Here is a simple fingerpicking pattern that always sounds good.

NOTE - The notation below is known as Tablature where horizontal lines represent strings of the guitar (top line= High E; bottom line=Low E); Vertical lines represent rhythm notation:

 

Two simple and nice guitar fingerpicking patterns.

 

Practice slowly making sure that each note rings out, your thumb moving back and forth between “anchor” notes of the chord.

As your fingers memorize the pattern, gradually increase the speed.

The first pattern can also be used on a D or Dm chord. Simply shift it up one string.

For variety, try picking different strings with your 1st and second fingers.
