Learning the Names and Notes on the 5th and 6th Strings

As you learned, (most) Barre chords have their root located either on the 5th or the 6th string. For example, to play a D barre chord, you would use the “E” shape on the 10th fret or the “A” shape on the 5th fret. Refer to the diagram below until you have memorized the note positions:
